Most of us love dogs. We live with them and spend a lot of time with them, whether indoors or outdoors. You might even be using your dogs as service or emotional support animals, meaning that they play a very essential role in your day-to-day life.

So, what can you do when such a useful dog in your life is suffering from anxiety? If you have ever lived with or supported an anxious dog, you understand how difficult this task can be. Fortunately, you can use different things and ways to get rid of anxiety in your dog.

Diet is one of the things you need to look at to support an anxious dog. Here are some types of foods to use to calm your anxious dog.

Blueberries

One of the most delicious ways you can use to calm your anxious dog down is through blueberries. Apart from Vitamin C and fiber, blueberries also have antioxidants and minerals to shield your fluffy friend from stress.

You can choose to either mix blueberries with the food you feed your dog or use them as a way of rewarding behaviors in your dogs.

Brown Rice

One way of helping your anxious dog to calm down is by finding ways to slow down its digestion. This is because you need to ensure that the dog absorbs enough tryptophan. Tryptophan plays an essential role in the manufacture of serotonin, which acts as a mood stabilizer.

If your dog has low serotonin levels, you will realize that it is more fearful. This means that you should keep these levels high, something that can help with anxiety. You can also use brown rice if your dog suffers from tummy issues.

Turkey

You will need to ensure that your anxious dog has enough tryptophan to help it fight anxiety. Turkey is one of the best-known sources of this amino acid. Tryptophan enhances calm behavior in dogs.

The benefits of turkey go even beyond calming them down. If you manage to get boneless and unseasoned turkey, you will be helping your dog build strong muscles and remain healthy and fit. This is because of their highly digestible nature.

Turkey Tail Mushroom

Even though not popular in the Western world, the benefits of turkey tail mushroom to your dogs go beyond just reducing anxiety. They are a type of fungus that you can find growing on trees.

Apart from using turkey tail mushrooms to reduce anxiety in your dogs, you can also use them to boost your dog’s immune system, for cancer treatment, to support healthy digestion, and to protect the dog from radicals that cause diseases.

Beef

You should make sure that the beef you use to feed your dog is rich in proteins. This is because it comes with different vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids that play a crucial role when it comes to healthy muscles, skin, and coats.

In addition, this kind of beef is the perfect antidepressant since it contains Vitamins B5 and B6, which help in reducing anxiety.

Spinach

You can also supplement the diet of your anxious dog with spinach, albeit in small quantities. This is because of the different nutrients such as dietary fiber, antioxidants, magnesium, iron, folic acid, and Vitamins A, C, and K. These nutrients are essential when it comes to calming your dog down.

Kale

Kale is slowly becoming one of the most preferred food products for pet parents. This is because of the many minerals and vitamins that it offers to dogs. Kale also has a selection of compounds that play an essential role in reducing stress in dogs.

Goat’s Milk

If you decide to use goat milk, make sure that you serve it raw. The raw goat milk comes with fatty acids, proteins, enzymes, trace elements, electrolytes, vitamins, and trace minerals. It can also be digested easily compared to most foods in this article.

You can use this milk to take care of the digestive lining of your dog. This is crucial in helping your dog easily break down foods. The high amounts of selenium, niacin, potassium, Vitamins A and B6, and calcium help to calm down anxious dogs.

Eggs

Eggs contain almost everything you might want in a meal. They have almost every other amino acid. In addition, eggs contain zinc, which improves the immune system of your dog and helps in the reduction of anxiety.

However, you need to be careful when using eggs to fight anxiety in your dog. This is because some dogs react to eggs. If you see any changes after your dog starts eating eggs, then reduce the amounts or choose the other foods discussed in this article.

Anxiety is very common in dogs. However, no matter how stressful this might be to dog owners, you can reduce it through the use of diet, as you can see in this article.
